Single-dose vial improves test reliability and delivers a more affordable solution

A manufacturer of rapid diagnostic test kits for sexually transmitted diseases faced significant challenges with its packaging. Utilizing a 5ml bottle for just 1ml of buffer solution resulted in the wastage of 0.4ml per test, translating to 2,000 liters—or €40,000—lost annually. This excess volume not only contributed to product waste but also jeopardized test accuracy, leading to customer dissatisfaction and potential risks to patient outcomes. The root cause was the selection of an improperly sized container, chosen for its availability rather than its suitability for the application. To address these issues, the manufacturer partnered with TekniPlex Healthcare to switch to a precisely sized 0.6ml injection-molded polyethylene single-dose vial. This new packaging solution improved ease of use and ensured accurate dispensing of the required buffer solution.
