5-Layer Blown Film Extrusion

Technology for producing complex multilayer plastic films.

Introduction

For applications that require strongly improved Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) and/or Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) while maintaining product recyclability requirements, TekniPlex offers barrier films and bags. These barrier-films are extruded inside of our clean rooms on a state of the art 5-layer Coex Blown Film Extrusion line.

Overview

TekniPlex Healthcare has expanded cleanroom film and bag production with a new multilayer blown film line. The new multilayer line joins a number of existing monolayer lines all inside ISO Class 7 cleanrooms at the Puurs facility, for use in the production of cleanroom bags. The addition comes as some healthcare market players shift from food-grade resin-based bags to those comprised of pharma-grade resins produced in GMP cleanroom conditions. It also comes in response to customer needs for higher barrier solutions requiring multilayer film/bag capabilities.

Advantages

  • Superior barrier properties (gas, odor, moisture)
  • Better mechanical strength and tear resistance
  • Ability to combine different polymers

Applications

  • Packaging for products requiring good OTR or WVTR values
  • Medical and pharmaceutical packaging
