Medical-Grade TPE Compounds

Thermoplastic elastomer compounds designed for technically demanding medical products and procedures, where traditional materials are deemed to be unacceptable due to specific scientific or regulatory concerns.

TekniPlex Healthcare’s Cellene® thermoplastic elastomer compounds combine the performance benefit of vulcanized rubber with the processing properties of thermoplastics. These compounds are suitable for a wide variety of applications in medical devices, packaging, and other regulated markets.

The Cellene® TPE medical-grade compounds series is a materials science innovation formulated as silicone, latex, phthalate, and halogen-free using FDA-compliant raw materials to meet USP Class VI and ISO 10993 standards. There are a multitude of advantages for OEMs to choose Cellene® TPE compounds:

  • Broad durometer range in Shore A and Shore D classifications
  • Low density (0.89 to 0.9 g/cm3)
  • High clarity grades for fluid monitoring applications
  • Low migration and drug absorption. Grades formulated without plasticizers
  • Intrinsic chemical & thermal characteristics. Exhibits chemical and thermal characteristics to that of polypropylene (PP)
  • Sterilization compatibility. With radiation, ethylene oxide (EO), or steam
  • Bondable. Can be readily bonded/adhered to a range of polymers, including polycarbonate, acrylic, and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)
  • Processability. Compatible with conventional extrusion and molding equipment
  • Customization. Custom formulations engineered to meet critical application requirements, including the addition of silver ion additives to gain antimicrobial properties
